For many years, I carried this story quietly with me.

As a scientist, a conservationist, and a parent, I spend many days thinking about life — where it comes from, how fragile it is, and how deeply connected we all are. But long before papers, programming code, or fieldwork, I was simply someone who looked up at the night sky and felt awe. I wanted a way to share that feeling with children — not through facts alone, but through wonder.

From Stardust to Us is the book I always wished existed when I was young. A gentle, poetic journey that tells children a simple truth: that they are made of the universe itself, that all living things are related, and that life on Earth is something rare and worth caring for. It’s a story about science, yes — but even more, it’s a story about belonging.

Writing a children’s book has mattered to me for many years because childhood is where curiosity is born. It’s where empathy begins. If we can help children see themselves as part of the great story of life — from the stars, through the tree of life, to us — then we give them something lasting: perspective, humility, and hope.
